The Eight Pillars of Positive Peace
We don’t treat social tension in isolation. The Eight Pillars give us one holistic lens to understand Lebanon’s structural challenges, design multi-sector interventions and measure real-world impact across eight interconnected domains.
Eight domains. One interconnected system.
Peace is strongest when all eight pillars reinforce each other. Weakness in one, such as corruption or unequal access to services, puts pressure on the rest. Progress in one strengthens the others.
Every PPF training, policy brief and field intervention is mapped to one or more pillars. That way our work adds up to measurable, system-wide change.
Well-Functioning Government
Promoting transparent, responsive, and accountable public administration at both municipal and national levels to rebuild institutional trust and enhance public service delivery.
Sound Business Environment
Supporting economic resilience, local entrepreneurship, and sustainable business models that generate equitable economic opportunities and reduce socio-economic vulnerability.
Equitable Distribution of Resources
Advocating for fair access to basic infrastructure, healthcare, education, and essential social services across all geographical regions in Lebanon, bridging urban-rural divides.
Acceptance of the Rights of Others
Fostering legal protection, human rights education, mutual respect, and social inclusion for all marginalized groups, religious communities, and vulnerable populations.
Good Relations with Neighbors
Rebuilding intra-community trust, de-escalating regional and sectarian tensions, and creating formal local conflict resolution mechanisms within and between municipalities.
Free Flow of Information
Encouraging independent, fact-based journalism, combatting toxic disinformation, and facilitating open public dialogue around critical socio-political issues.
High Levels of Human Capital
Investing in youth leadership development, civic education, vocational skills, and equipping emerging community actors with modern peacebuilding toolkits.
Low Levels of Corruption
Strengthening civic oversight, institutional integrity, and public transparency standards to combat systemic corruption and restore faith in public institutions.
